Mechanism of separation hysteresis in curved compression ramp

چکیده

A new spatial-related mechanism is proposed to understand separation hysteresis processes in curved compression ramp (CCR) flows discovered recently (Hu et al. Phy. Fluid, 32(11): 113601, 2020). Two hystereses, induced by variations of Mach number and wall temperature, are investigated numerically. The two hystereses indicate that there must exist parameter intervals wherein both attachment states can be established stably. relationships between the aerodynamic characteristics (including friction, pressure heat flux) shock wave configurations this analyzed. Further, adverse gradient (APG) Isb(x) upstream process APG Icw(x) downstream isentropic estimated classic theories. trend boundary layer resistence Ib(x) evaluated from spatial distributions physical quantities such as shape factor height sound velocity line. With stable conditions attachment, a self-consistent obtained when Isb, Icw Ib have appropriate distributions.

Instability of supersonic compression ramp flow.

The instability of supersonic compression ramp flow is investigated. It is assumed that the Reynolds number is large and that the governing equations are the unsteady triple-deck equations. The mean flow is first calculated by solving the steady equations for various scaled ramp angles α, and the numerical results suggest that there is no singularity for increasing ramp angles. The stability of...

Rayleigh-Bénard convection with a radial ramp in plate separation.

Pattern formation in Rayleigh-Bénard convection in a large-aspect-ratio cylinder with a radial ramp in the plate separation is studied analytically and numerically by performing numerical simulations of the Boussinesq equations. A horizontal mean flow and a vertical large scale counterflow are quantified and used to understand the pattern wave number. Our results suggest that the mean flow, gen...

Shock formation and the ideal shape of ramp compression waves.

We derive expressions for shock formation based on the local curvature of the flow characteristics during dynamic compression. Given a specific ramp adiabat, calculated for instance from the equation of state for a substance, the ideal nonlinear shape for an applied ramp loading history can be determined. We discuss the region affected by lateral release, which can be presented in compact form ...

Brightness shift in drifting ramp gratings isolates a transient mechanism.

A brightness shift is demonstrated for moving ramp stimuli. The data suggest that the transient visual response to changing luminance is combined with the sustained response to produce an overall impression of brightness. We attribute the brightness shift to the saturation of the transient response: a limitation on the maximum transient when responding to rapid brightening or dimming. The brigh...
